Frequently Asked Questions

Ceremonial grade matcha is the highest quality of matcha available and is typically used in traditional Japanese tea ceremonies. It's made from young, tender tea leaves that are shade-grown for several weeks before harvest, which boosts the levels of chlorophyll and amino acids in the leaves. These leaves are then carefully ground into a fine, vibrant green powder.

The key characteristics of ceremonial grade matcha are:

  1. Flavour: It has a smooth, umami-rich flavour with a balance of sweetness and slight bitterness, without being too astringent.
  2. Colour: The powder is a bright, vibrant green, indicating high quality.
  3. Texture: It should be silky and fine, almost like flour.
  4. Production: It’s often stone-ground to preserve the delicate flavours.

Matcha is better for those looking for a calmer, more sustained energy boost, especially if you need to stay focused for a long time without a crash or feeling jittery. It’s also a great choice for those who prefer a healthier, antioxidant-rich option with less risk of anxiety.

Coffee is better if you need a quick, strong energy boost and enjoy the bold, robust flavour. It’s a popular choice for those who need a more intense, fast-acting wake-up.

Caffeine Content

  • Matcha 35–70 mg
  • Coffee 95–200 mg

Energy Effect

  • Matcha Smooth, calm focus, no crash
  • Coffee Sharp, quick energy, followed by a crash

Matcha’s caffeine is absorbed more gradually thanks to the presence of L-theanine, an amino acid that promotes relaxation. As a result, you get a gentler, longer-lasting energy boost that helps with focus and mental clarity without the jitters or crash that coffee can cause.

The sharp spike in caffeine from coffee is often followed by a crash, leaving you feeling tired and less focused after a few hours. This can lead to a cycle of needing more coffee to maintain your energy level.

Health Benefits

  • Matcha High in antioxidants, boosts metabolism & fat burning, stress reduction
  • Coffee Antioxidants, improves mental clarity, may improve heart health

Hydration

  • Matcha Hydrating
  • Coffee Slightly dehydrating

The amount of matcha you should use per serving depends on the type of matcha you're preparing and your personal taste preferences.

Here’s a general guideline:

1 to 2 teaspoons (2-4 grams) or 3 bamboo tea scoops (Chashaku)

* 1 bamboo tea scoop is approximately 1 gram.

Yes, Absolutely!

Our "HATSU MUKASHI" is organic. We have both organic and non organic.

  • Store in an airtight, opaque container.
  • Keep it in a cool, dry, dark place (like a pantry).
  • Avoid moisture and strong odours.
  • Use it within a month after opening for the best flavour.

Ingredients

  • 3 grams of ceremonial grade matcha, approximately 1-2 teaspoons or 3 bamboo tea scoops (Chashaku)
  • 60 ml hot water (not boiling—about 80°C or 175°F)
  • 180 ml milk (dairy, oat, almond, or your choice)

  1. Sift the Matcha: Sift 3 bamboo tea scoops (or 1-2 teaspoons) of matcha powder into your bowl or mug using a fine mesh sieve to prevent clumping and ensure a smooth texture.
  2. Heat the Water: Heat 60 ml of water to about 80°C (175°F). Don’t let it boil, as that can make the matcha taste bitter.
  3. Add Water: Pour the 60 ml of hot water over the sifted matcha powder.
  4. Whisk the Matcha: Using a bamboo whisk (chasen), whisk the matcha in a "W" or "M" motion for 15-20 seconds until it becomes frothy and well-mixed. If you don’t have a whisk, a small regular whisk or even a milk frother can work too.
  5. Pour the frothed milk: Steam or froth your milk (about 180 ml, depending on how creamy you like it), then add it to your matcha.
  6. Enjoy: Sip your matcha and enjoy its smooth, rich flavor!
